Welcome to Cub Scouts Pack 295 - Guyton, GA

Dear Parents and future Cub Scouts,

Welcome! We are excited to have you join Pack 295! Cub Scouts is a year-round program offering fun activities that promote character and leadership development. Families are encouraged to play an active role in our programs, as our pack is run completely by parent volunteers. We offer programs for children in kindergarten through fifth grades. Activities include camping, service projects, recognition banquets, a pinewood derby, and weekly den meetings. Siblings are always welcome to attend pack activities

How to join Pack 295:
  • Fill out paper application or complete online registration.

  • Pay fees.

National Registration fees are done per calendar year:

  • $85 per Cub Scout

  • $65 per adult volunteer

  • $25 one-time new joining fee (youth only)

  • $4 council insurance fee

Pack Fees: $15 Camp KT Wallace Fee (collected in November at Recharter)

If your child has insurance through Amerigroup, the insurance company will pay the $85 base registration fee. You will need to provide a copy of your child's insurance card with their membership application. These applications will need to be done with a paper application, NOT online.

** If you are in need of financial assistance for your yearly registration fee, please complete our scholarship application. Scholarships are issued as funding is available and needs are demonstrated.

Campouts and Activities:

Each campout and activity will have its own fees associated. Some will be through the local council, others will be through the Pack.

* Health Forms- All family members and Cubs are required to have Health Forms A&B on file with the Pack to participate in any outing. Please fill these out and return them to the Cub Master at your earliest convienience.

Meetings:

Weekly Den Meetings are held each Tuesday at 7 pm at Camp KT Wallace as long as school is in session.

Pack Meetings will be held at Guyton Methodist Church. These are meetings where we meet as a group for awards to be presented.

A parent or guardian must stay with their child for the duration of each meeting, activity, and outing.

Dropping off your Cub Scout is not permitted. If you have multiple Cub Scouts and do not have a parent/guardian for both, the youngest Cub or Cub that needs the most help is who the parent/guardian should stay with.

Cub Scout Rank Structure:

Lion through Bear Cub Scouts complete adventures to earn belt loops to mark their progress to rank completion. Webelo and Arrow of Light Scouts are presented with pins to mark their progress.

  • Kindergarten Cubs work towards their Lion rank.

  • First grade Cubs work toward their Tiger rank.

  • Second grade Cubs work toward their Wolf rank.

  • Third grade Cubs work toward their Bear rank.

  • Fourth grade Cubs work toward their Webelos rank.

  • Fifth grade Cubs work toward their Arrow of Light (AOL) rank.

Parent Responsibilities:

When joining Pack 295, each parent or adult family member agrees to support their Cub Scout in the following ways:

  1. See that they have the proper uniform and handbook.

  2. Assist them in attending weekly meetings.

  3. Work with them to complete the achievements for their rank award.

  4. Support their Den Leader as a resource person or substitute if asked.

  5. Complete Youth Protection Training (available online at www.myscouting.org).

Youth Protection Program:

All parents will need to complete the Youth Protection Program Training. This training creates a safe environment for young people to enjoy the Cub Scout program's activities. It also provides strategies for personal safety awareness for youth as well as adults.

Handbooks:

Scouts also need to purchase the handbook for their rank. This handbook serves as their guide to Cub Scouting for the requirements to reach the next rank. Handbooks should be purchased as soon as possible to allow your Cub Scout to participate fully in each week's meeting with their den.

  • Lion and Tiger handbook: $13.90 w/tax

  • Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and AOL handbook: $25.67 w/tax

*There will be a handbook purchase sheet for you to fill out at our meetings and we can pick up the handbooks for you.

Uniform Requirements:

Uniforms are an essential component of Cub Scouting. Cub Scouts are made to feel part of a group and have a place to display their awards when they wear their uniforms.

Class A Uniform:

  • Lions: Lion t-shirt or the blue button-down shirt.

  • Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos: Blue button-down shirt with appropriate patches.

  • Arrow of Light: Tan button-down shirt with appropriate patches.

  • In addition to the shirt, your Cub will also need a belt, neckerchief with slide, and a hat.

  • Bottoms should be navy blue, or jean.

  • Official Scout pants and socks are optional.

Class B Uniform:

  • Class B is our Pack t-shirt. Cotton: $12 per shirt. Dri-fit: $15 per shirt.

Scouts are thrifty, so we encourage you to seek used uniform items before buying new. Some items may be available from our previous Scouts at our used uniform sale, or you may wish to look on Facebook Marketplace or eBay for items. Consider buying a size larger to get longer use out of your uniform shirt (some Tigers are able to wear the same uniform shirt through their Bear year).

If budget is a concern, then please use our Scholarship Application to request assistance.

* Uniforms are not required until October. We wear Class A uniforms to public events and Pack meetings.

** All scouting items are sold at the Scout Shop at 11900 Abercorn Expressway in Savannah. Check www.coastalgeorgiabsa.org for store hours. To make purchasing items more convenient, we will also host a Mobile Scout Shop at one of our den meetings in September. Uniform components and books will be available at this time. Items can even be bought and paid for by email or phone prior to Mobile Scout Shop night. If you preorder your items, they will be brought to KT for you to pick up.

Communications:

Our main communication will be through GroupMe. We have a Pack chat as well as a chat for each Den. You can download the app, or use the website.

We will also share information on our parent’s Facebook group: https://facebook.com/groups/cubscoutpack295guyton

Fundraising:

Popcorn

Pack 295 participates in the annual Twin Rivers District Popcorn sales event which takes place each August through November. The popcorn sale raises funds for pack programming and for Scout camping and outings. All Scouts are encouraged to participate. Popcorn can be sold to friends and family both in person and online. In addition, the pack holds sales at local businesses on select weekends where Cubs are urged to volunteer as helpers. 15% of the funds raised go into the Cubs account with the Pack and 85% is split between Council and Trails End.

Meat Sticks & Chocolate Bars

During December through February, we will be selling meat sticks and chocolate bars. Cubs will earn profits to put into their Cub account.

BBQ

Each March, the Pack and Troop hold a BBQ fundraiser at Guyton Methodist Church. This fundraiser gets split between the Pack and Troop based upon ticket sales from each. 100% of the funds raised stay with the units. The Pack uses these funds to help pay for awards as well as subsidize meals and gear on campouts and other Pack activities.

Camp Cards

In the spring, Cubs will sell coupon cards to help pay for summer camp or any other Scouting needs. 50% of each card sold goes into the Cub's account with the Pack.

*All funds earned may be used toward registration, summer camp, campouts, Scout Store purchases, and any other Scouting needs throughout the year.

**All funds earned are to be used for Scouting related expenses ONLY. Cub accounts cannot be used for any other reason, and cannot be cashed out.

Allergies:

Please make your Scout's Den Leader AND the Cubmaster are aware of any food sensitivities or allergies IN WRITING so it can be noted for future meetings, banquets, and pack activities. The safety of our Cubs is a top priority.

Important Notes:

Closed toe shoes are required for all BSA activities. This includes meetings, campouts, outings. Flip flops are allowed only during camping for use at the showers and waterfront.

Smoking/Vaping has to be done out of eyesight and away from Scouts.
